Research Foundation Delays Election, Claims We are Not Workers
The Research Foundation (RF) continues to waste research money on expensive union busting lawyers. We estimate that for every hour their firm charges the RF, five RAs could have their transportation and technology fees waived for an entire year.
The public testimony of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) hearing in Brooklyn has concluded. Now both sides get to submit a brief summarizing their arguments. Then the board will issue a decision on whether we are “workers” and thus entitled to have an election. We expect to win and for the Board to set an election.
Unfortunately, the RF might try to appeal this decision to the Washington D.C. NLRB, which already ruled that RAs in Syracuse, Buffalo, and Albany are employees. The RF has the right to present their side, but it’s unfair of them to send us a letter saying that they are “pro-employee” and then delay an election with a hearing to determine whether or not we are employees.
We are fighting to be able to at least have the right to choose if we want a union or not, and the RF is spending scarce research dollars trying to delay the election.
